“I met Sébastien Pins, who told me about his project and showed me some of the scenes they shot. I found his approach very moving. The love that exudes from the couple and the smile with which they face their difficulties gives us strength. Sébastien’s point of view puts love and the will to live in the spotlight, a sensitive and empathetic approach to the couple that faces the handicap. Sébastien asked me to sponsor his film, which I accepted wholeheartedly. I believe it will be beautiful.”

“Despite the weight of the handicap, Bernard and Solange have turned their home for 25 years into a place for parties, dance, music, lectures, conference, one of these socializing spaces and of pure joy that give meaning to the word “resistance”: resistance to the shock of handicap, resistance to pain, resistance to resignation. It was a vital reflex for them against adversity: they imposed it on themselves to lead normal lives despite it all, with the elegance of apparent lightness. It goes beyond resistance: it’s a revolt, a determined opposition to flip the laws of physics and medicine. I felt it necessary to sponsor a project like “The Wings of Freedom”.

“I gladly sponsor « The Wings of Freedom » because Bernard and I have been friends for a long time. We regularly went together to festivals, manifestations, bistros, village parties, or discos when we were teenagers. My professional life in Brussels pulled me away but I participated in some support actions for Bernard after the tragedy that hit him. As I’ve been going back regularly to the Marchin region in the last years, I was able to renew a stronger friendship with Solange and Bernard, and we now see each other at least once a week. The strength of their couple is incredible and so powerful that it transformed this heavy handicap into a generator of deeply human relationships, first of all within their families but also within their vast social network where artistic expressions play a big role, turning their home into a sorte of small cultural center of improvised rich and diverse encounters. This vitality and resilience, born out of their uniquely intense love, is definitely worth being recorded for posterity as a sensitive and poetic audiovisual work, reflecting their own multiple talents.”

“Why I chose to support this film? My 40-year-old friendship with Bernard and more recently with Solange is without a doubt the main argument. There’s a bond in this friendship, we agree on a whole lot of interests of cultural, social and human level. My second motivation is the relevance of this project. Bernard and Solange’s adventure is unique and almost unbelievable as it lets us discover a rare love for life, an interest for the world, for culture, for this life that most of us who have it easier often overlook. There’s a beauty that goes against the current of our current societal evolution which focuses on material and individualistic interests, corrupting our relationships.”

“Bernard and Solange have been friends of mine for a long time. One day, their life was turned upside down. And yet, they stand upright. I support this documentary because it’s important to share their story.”

“I decided to support Sébastien’s film because it’s about resilience, about people that live differently, and about inclusion. My whole work as an actor for a younger audience is rooted in those themes. I work mainly for children who live on the margin of society. I think it’s important to work for them, to help create a more inclusive society. Through the interpretation of my persona Blabla on TV for 15 years, I’ve been, in my own way, one of the artisans of that vision of life.”
